Samjin Eomuk Selected as Winner of 2024 Good Design Award

Three Types of Everyday Goods Selected as Excellent Package Design Products

The fish cake brand Samjin Eomuk (CEO Park Yongjun) announced on the 5th that it has been selected as a winner in the Package Design category at the 2024 Good Design Award (GOOD DESIGN KOREA).

The Good Design Award is the most prestigious design award in Korea, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. Since 1985, it has been held annually, comprehensively evaluating the design, appearance, functionality, and economic value of all domestic products, and awarding the "GOOD DESIGN" mark to those recognized for their excellence.

Samjin Eomuk was selected as an excellent industrial design product in the package design category with three types of lifestyle goods at this competition.

The Samjin Eomuk goods are characterized by their simple yet emotional design, based on three key themes: "practicality," "eco-friendliness," and "fun." These goods are designed to allow people to enjoy fish cakes in a variety of ways in daily life, and they use eco-friendly materials with consideration for the global environment.

The main package surface features a graphic representation of "Sam," the Chinese character for "three" (三), symbolizing the identity of Samjin Eomuk: "Reflect on the past, strive in the present, and steadily move toward the future." This symbolic expression received high praise.

The three Samjin Eomuk goods consist of a "Fish Cake Soup Plate," a "Fish Cake Tea Bag Tumbler," and a "Fish Cake-Shaped Scrubber."

The Fish Cake Soup Plate is inspired by the red-handled cups used in old street food stalls to scoop fish cake broth, evoking nostalgia for childhood memories associated with fish cakes. At the same time, the plate features a modernized design and three stylish colors, creating a sophisticated impression.

Made from forestry by-products that are discarded without damaging nature, the plate is lightweight yet durable, making it convenient for use outdoors during camping or travel.

The Fish Cake Tea Bag Tumbler is a reusable cup designed for enjoying Samjin Eomuk's signature "fish cake broth tea bag" product. It is made by upcycling coffee bean husks discarded during coffee production.

The design incorporates Samjin Eomuk's signature character, adding a lively and refreshing touch. The ribbed surface creates a three-dimensional feel and increases grip to prevent slipping.

The Fish Cake-Shaped Scrubber is made from natural materials with both health and the environment in mind. It faithfully replicates the form and packaging of Samjin Eomuk's signature product, the "Teukcheon Square Fish Cake," which has been loved since the company's founding, adding an element of fun.

The three Samjin Eomuk goods are currently available at Samjin Eomuk's Yeongdo Main Store, Goyang Store, and Incheon Store. To commemorate this Good Design Award win, a limited quantity will also be sold through the official online mall in the near future.

Kim Jinui, the designer in charge of the award-winning products from the Samjin Eomuk design team, said, "We aimed to create a symbol that represents not only product design but also the company's philosophy and brand identity," adding, "We will continue to develop creative and sustainable designs to promote fish cake culture."

Samjin Eomuk was selected as the No. 1 brand in the processed seafood category for four consecutive years in the 26th Korea Brand Power Index (K-BPI) survey. In addition, the company received the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award at the "2024 Korea 100-Year Enterprise" event hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, recognizing its long tradition and history.
