Fire Extinguishers Installed in All BMW and Mini Delivered Vehicles

Self-Manufacturing and Distribution of High-Performance Fire Extinguishers

All delivered vehicles of BMW and MINI will be equipped with self-manufactured vehicle fire extinguishers.

BMW Group Korea announced on the 5th that it will take such measures for all BMW and MINI vehicles delivered in line with the revision of the 'Act on Installation and Management of Firefighting Facilities.'

With the amendment to the fire safety law, all vehicles with five or more seats manufactured, imported, and sold after December 1 must be mandatorily equipped with fire extinguishers. BMW emphasized that it proactively installed fire extinguishers in all vehicles ahead of the enforcement of the revised law, becoming the first in the imported car industry to do so.

The installed fire extinguisher is an automotive-compatible extinguisher approved by the Korea Fire Institute (KFI). In addition to the general performance tests applied to regular extinguishers, it passed additional vibration and high-temperature tests. It uses patented jet spray nozzles, which provide a spray angle up to eight times wider and up to 30% better extinguishing capability compared to regular extinguishers.

It uses eco-friendly extinguishing powder manufactured with recycled extinguishing agents certified by the Ministry of Environment, and the extinguisher case passed crash tests conducted by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute.

Meanwhile, on the 12th of last month, BMW Group Korea became the first in the imported car industry to proactively disclose electric vehicle battery manufacturers before the government's public recommendation timing. BMW Group Korea also distributed 'firefighting kits (AVD extinguishers, fire hoses)' to all nationwide electric vehicle charging stations and 134 official showrooms and service centers it has established.
