Naver's 'AI Check-in Calls' for Elderly Living Alone Adopted by Over Half of Si-Gun-Gu Districts

Introduced in 128 out of 229 Cities and Counties Nationwide

Naver announced on the 5th that its AI check-in call service, 'CLOVA CareCall,' has been introduced in more than half of the cities, counties, and districts nationwide. This achievement was reached about three years after CLOVA CareCall was first introduced in Haeundae-gu, Busan, in November 2021.

CLOVA CareCall is a service where AI makes calls to check on the well-being of elderly people living alone and middle-aged single-person households who need care. It applies Naver's large-scale AI technology to enable natural conversations with emotional empathy. A distinctive feature is the 'remembering' function, which uses past conversations to maintain continuity in dialogue. The 'purpose-driven check-in conversation' function, which performs specific tasks, supports disaster notification guidance and damage verification, helping local governments and related agencies improve work efficiency.


As of August this year, CLOVA CareCall has been introduced in 128 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Gangwon, and Chungnam. It is the largest scale in the industry among AI check-in call services. The number of users is also the highest domestically, doubling compared to August last year to reach 30,000.


There have also been cases where CLOVA CareCall saved elderly people living alone in crisis situations. Recently, in Suncheon-si, a welfare officer detected signs of health abnormalities through speech during a CLOVA CareCall and quickly decided to visit the site, saving an emergency cirrhosis patient. In Daegu-si, health-related abnormal speech was detected, supporting prompt follow-up care for elderly people living alone.


Naver Cloud plans to further advance related functions and technologies. Based on large-scale AI technology, it will diversify purpose-driven conversation scenarios beyond daily life areas, including dementia prevention conversations and chronic disease management.
