"I feel uneasy every time I pass by because of the tangled wires hanging everywhere."
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) is undertaking maintenance of faulty aerial cables that spoil the urban landscape and threaten pedestrian safety. The aerial cable maintenance project involves bundling and organizing tangled electric and communication wires on roads or buildings, or removing unnecessary cables.
This year, maintenance will be carried out on 688 utility poles, 210 communication poles, and 69,687 meters of aerial cables in four areas: Deungchon 2-dong, Hwagok Bon-dong, Hwagok 3-dong, and Hwagok 6-dong.
Previously, the district selected priority maintenance sites based on demand surveys and on-site inspections, focusing on areas with a high volume of complaints and densely populated low-rise old housing areas. By November, the district plans to complete the removal of abandoned and unnecessary lines, organize the chaotic incoming lines, and maintain excessively installed broadcasting and communication facilities in cooperation with Korea Electric Power Corporation and broadcasting and telecommunications companies.
District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "Through this aerial cable maintenance, we will create a pleasant street environment and ensure pedestrian safety. We ask for residents' cooperation to facilitate smooth progress of the maintenance."
