'Designing Rural Spaces'
From Today to the 8th, Four Days
At aT Center, Yangjae, Seoul

The '2024 Korea Agriculture Expo,' the nation's representative comprehensive exhibition for agriculture and rural areas, opened on the 5th. Under the theme 'Rural Areas, Designing Spaces,' this expo presents the potential of rural areas as places to live, work, and rest, while also operating a special sales event for agricultural and livestock products to ease the burden of grocery prices for visitors ahead of Chuseok.

The Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (EPIS) announced that the 2024 Korea Agriculture Expo will be held for four days from the 5th to the 8th at the aT Center in Yangjae, Seoul. First held in 2019, this is the 6th edition of the Korea Agriculture Expo. It is organized annually by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and EPIS to convey the value of agriculture and rural areas as the nation's representative comprehensive exhibition for agriculture and rural communities.

In particular, this expo expands the special sales event for agricultural and livestock products in collaboration with NongHyup, young farmers, and the Duck Fund to alleviate grocery price burdens ahead of Chuseok. During the expo period (5th to 8th), NongHyup will operate an outdoor market selling discounted gift sets of rice, Korean beef, and other agricultural and livestock products. Starting from the 2nd, online sales events have begun in partnership with NongHyup Mall, including discounted sales of Chuseok seasonal products through Handon Mall and live commerce.

The 2024 Korea Agriculture Expo was planned under the theme 'Rural Areas, Designing Spaces' to inform the public about changes in rural spaces over the next decade, based on the 'Basic Policy for Rural Space Restructuring and Regeneration' announced in March.

The expo features special exhibition halls such as the Rural Specialized District Hall, Rural Life Hall, and Youth Startup Hall, showcasing various exhibitions and experience programs highlighting rural areas as places to live, work, and rest. The Rural Specialized District Hall is designed to provide an overview of seven major rural specialized districts where living, working, and resting are balanced. The Rural Life Hall introduces rural lifestyle content that has recently gained attention, such as tiny houses (very small homes) and workations (work + vacation) promoting various types of stays and exchanges like '4 days in the city, 3 days in the countryside (4do3chon).' It also features a visiting medical service provided by a mobile clinic bus.

The Youth Startup Hall introduces various cases of youth entrepreneurship, and the 'Pagi Gas Station' operates networking activities and performance programs where young activists based in agriculture and rural areas share startup ideas and experiences. Additionally, newly introduced this year are the Korea Agriculture Expo 'Popular Content Awards' and the 'Agricultural Products Hall of the Year (K-Cong Festa),' unique programs of the expo. The Popular Content Awards enhance promotional effects for participating companies through the expo while providing visitors with more diverse exhibition and experience opportunities. The Agricultural Products Hall of the Year selects soybeans as this year's agricultural product, featuring exhibitions and tasting programs of various products using Korean soybeans, along with abundant experience programs for future generations in the 'K-Cong Festa.'

An EPIS official said, "Through this expo, we have strived to introduce agriculture and rural areas as open spaces for all citizens?good places to live anywhere, vibrant workplaces with diverse opportunities, and attractive resting places." They added, "We expect to demonstrate the value and potential of agriculture and rural areas through various prepared exhibition and experience contents, introducing them as spaces open to all citizens."
