Stretchable, Foldable, and Bending Displays... Future-Oriented Clothing and Bag Concepts
Screen Size Increased by 20%... High Resolution, RGB, and Full Color Simultaneously Implemented

LG Display unveils a 'Stretchable Display' at a fashion show that can be stretched, folded, and twisted. The product, which maintains a monitor-level resolution while stretching the screen by 20%, is applied to clothing and bags for exhibition. This participation in the fashion show is part of a national project conducted jointly with the government and research institutes to test the feasibility of commercializing the stretchable display.

On the 5th, LG Display announced that it will reveal future-oriented clothing and bag concepts featuring the stretchable display at the '2025 S/S Seoul Fashion Week' held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).

The stretchable display can be freely deformed into any shape such as stretching, folding, and twisting, earning it the title of the ultimate 'freeform' display.

LG Display developed the industry's first stretchable display in 2022. The 12-inch screen can stretch up to 14 inches, a 20% increase. It maintains a resolution of 100ppi (pixels per inch), comparable to that of a standard monitor. It also realizes full RGB (red, green, blue) color.

LG Display stated that it participated in this fashion show as part of a national project jointly conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. This is to test the feasibility of commercializing the stretchable display currently under development. LG Display was selected as the lead company for the 'National Project for Developing Stretchable Displays for Automotive and Smart Devices' in 2020. It has been conducting joint research and development with 19 domestic industry-academia-research institutions. With the national project completion scheduled for the end of the year, LG Display plans to further enhance the technical completeness of the stretchable display, including its elongation rate, durability, and reliability.

LG Display collaborated with world-renowned designers Park Yoonhee and Lee Cheongcheong to apply the stretchable display to the front and sleeves of garments and clutch bags. This created new products whose designs and colors change moment by moment. On the designers’ runway shows, models wear clothing and bags made with the stretchable display and walk the runway.

The stretchable display is thin and lightweight and can adhere to irregular curved surfaces such as clothing or skin. It is expected to be widely applied across various industries including fashion, wearables, and mobility. It can be used in IT devices worn like clothes or attached to the body.

Designer Park Yoonhee said, "We designed future fashion with a new material that has never existed before," adding, "The stretchable display will bring a new paradigm to the fashion industry."

Yoon Sooyoung, LG Display’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President, said, "We will successfully complete the stretchable display national project and elevate South Korea’s display technology competitiveness to the next level," and added, "We will continue to develop products that provide differentiated customer value."
