Joint Hosting by Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam at BEXCO on the 5th at 2 PM... Linked to Climate Industry International Expo
Busan City, together with Ulsan City and Gyeongnam Province, will hold the '2024 Buu-Gyeong Energy Forum' at 2:00 PM on the 3rd floor conference room of BEXCO (Exhibition Hall 1) on the 5th, under the theme of joint response measures to the regional differential electricity rate system.
This forum is part of the Buu-Gyeong Mega-Regional Economic Alliance, aiming to raise awareness about the 'regional differential electricity rate system,' seek and publicize policy directions for revitalizing the regional economy such as achieving energy decentralization. In particular, it is expected to create a synergy effect by being held in conjunction with the '2024 World Climate Industry Expo (WCE)'.
Last May, the Ministry of Industry announced that it would differentiate the system marginal price (SMP) of electricity by region in 2025, and implement the regional differential electricity rate system for retail electricity prices in 2026.
Through this, the unequal electricity rate system between the capital and non-capital regions is expected to be improved, and promising companies with high electricity consumption such as secondary batteries, semiconductors, and data centers can be attracted to the region, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
About 50 participants, including representatives from Buu-Gyeong research institutes, universities, companies, and civic groups, will attend to engage in in-depth discussions on establishing a joint Buu-Gyeong strategy in response to the implementation of the regional differential electricity rate system.
For the keynote presentations: ① Professor Kim Jip from Korea Energy Engineering University will present the theory and background of the regional rate differentiation system; ② Kim Yuchang, director of KEI Consulting, will present on distributed energy specialized regions and retail rate differentiation.
Following this, experts in the energy and power sectors from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam will participate in a lively discussion on policy directions in response to the implementation of the regional differential electricity rate system.
Taking this forum as an opportunity, the city plans to further strengthen the regional energy cooperation system with industry, academia, and research stakeholders, centering on the 'Buu-Gyeong Mega-Regional Economic Alliance', to proactively and preemptively respond to the government's distributed energy activation policy and maintain close communication with related organizations.
Park Dongseok, Director of the Advanced Industry Bureau of the city, said, "Through this forum, we expect to further strengthen the 'Buu-Gyeong Mega-Regional Economic Alliance' and derive effective policy directions to respond to the regional differential electricity rate system with Buu-Gyeong experts." He added, "Our city will do its utmost to actively discover and support promising new energy industry companies that will enter the region due to the reduction in electricity rate burdens, so that they can become a new growth engine for the local economy."
