Professor Yoo Appointed Program Chair
First Case Among Asian University Faculty
KAIST announced on the 5th that Professor Minsoo Yoo of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been appointed as the Program Co-Chair of the 58th International Symposium on Microarchitecture (MICRO), organized by the IEEE/ACM, to be held next year.
This marks the first time in the 57-year history of the symposium that an Asian university faculty member has been appointed as a Program Chair of MICRO.
MICRO is the longest-standing and most prestigious international conference in the field of computer architecture, and is one of the three major international conferences in this field.
Professor Yoo was recognized for his contributions to computer architecture and will serve as Program Co-Chair of the 58th MICRO Symposium (2025) alongside Professor Radu Teodorescu of Ohio State University.
The Program Chair is responsible for directly selecting over 300 program reviewers and overseeing the review and selection of approximately 500 submitted papers for the conference.
Professor Yoo stated, “I will strive to maintain the traditions of the MICRO symposium while creating a program that comprehensively reflects research in emerging computer hardware and software fields.”
Professor Yoo majored in Electronic Engineering at Sogang University, earned his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at KAIST, and received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked at NVIDIA Research from 2014 to 2017 and has been a professor at KAIST since 2018.
He has been recognized as a next-generation leader in the fields of AI intelligent semiconductors and computer systems, having been inducted into the HPCA conference Hall of Fame in 2021, the MICRO conference Hall of Fame in 2022, and this year’s ISCA conference Hall of Fame.
