Recall of 78,218 BMW 520i and Others Due to Device Defects and Design Errors

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 5th that a total of 78,218 vehicles across 67 models manufactured or imported and sold by BMW Korea, Volvo Trucks Korea, and Hyundai Motor Company have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).

A total of 68,428 vehicles across 62 models, including the BMW 520i, are being recalled since the 28th of last month due to potential degradation in braking performance caused by defects in the integrated braking system. The integrated braking system refers to a device that combines hydraulic and electronic brake systems.

For 6,998 vehicles across 4 models, including the Volvo Trucks FH tractor, the recall starting on the 6th is due to a design error in the variable axle steering device, which does not meet safety standards.

Hyundai Motor's Genesis Coupe, totaling 2,792 vehicles, will also be recalled starting on the 6th. This is because the clutch pedal component may be damaged, causing the engine to start and the vehicle to move even without pressing the pedal, which could pose safety risks.

Regarding the recall, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the corrective measures via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner has already repaired the defect at their own expense, they can apply for reimbursement of the repair costs from the manufacturer. Whether a vehicle is subject to recall and detailed information about the manufacturing defects can be checked by entering the vehicle number or chassis number on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's automobile recall center website.
