Applications Accepted from September 9-25 for Apartment Complexes with 20+ Households Having Electric Vehicle Charging Zones
Business Agreement with Seongdong Fire Station and Seongdong Police Station, Electric Vehicle Fire Response Training, Crime Prevention and Fire Safety Education for Apartment Safety Managers
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is promoting a project to support the installation of thermal imaging cameras in apartment complex parking lots to prevent electric vehicle fires, as residents' anxiety has increased due to recent electric vehicle fire incidents in multi-family housing.
Since early response is crucial in the event of an electric vehicle fire, thermal imaging cameras will be installed as part of the emergency support project for apartment complexes in the second half of 2024 to detect fires early and enable prompt action.
The support targets apartment complexes with 20 or more households in the area that have electric vehicle charging (parking) zones. Apartment complexes wishing to receive support can apply by visiting or mailing their application to the Housing Policy Division of Seongdong-gu Office from September 9 to 25.
Meanwhile, to actively respond to electric vehicle fires in apartment complexes, on August 13, the district signed the "Seongdong-gu Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention and Response Agreement" with Seongdong Fire Station and Seongdong Police Station, uniting related agencies. On August 28, a joint electric vehicle fire response drill was conducted at Wangsimni Square targeting apartment complex management entities together with Seongdong Fire Station.
Additionally, on September 20, crime prevention and fire safety education will be provided for apartment complex safety managers and security supervisors. Furthermore, to prevent electric vehicle fires in advance and protect residents' safety and property, the district plans to create a safer Seongdong by supporting the installation of thermal imaging cameras as part of the emergency apartment complex support project in the second half of the year.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "To alleviate residents' anxiety caused by electric vehicle fires in apartment complexes, we are continuously identifying tasks for accident prevention through various measures such as agreements with related agencies, joint drills, education, and support for thermal imaging camera installation," adding, "We will continue our efforts so that residents can live with peace of mind."
