The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byungil) and the Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Juhyo) will accept applications for the second round of the 2024 academic year second semester National Scholarship until 6:00 PM on the 11th.
The National Scholarship is an income-linked scholarship provided by the government to college students in order to ease the burden of tuition fees. It is available to students whose income and assets are below a certain level (Student Aid Category 8) and who meet academic requirements.
The student aid category is determined by considering the income assessment of the student and their family members (parents or spouse), the income-converted value of their assets, and the deduction amount according to the number of siblings. The assessment process generally takes about eight weeks.
During this second application period, freshmen (students scheduled to enroll in the second semester), transfer students, re-admitted students, returning students, and current students who missed the first application period can apply for the National Scholarship. After the deadline for the second round, it will no longer be possible to apply for the second semester National Scholarship, so applications must be submitted within the designated period. However, current students are generally required to apply during the first round, and may only apply during the second round up to two times during their enrollment.
The National Scholarship can be applied for 24 hours a day via the Korea Student Aid Foundation website and the ‘Korea Student Aid Foundation’ mobile app. When applying for the National Scholarship, Type I, Type II, and the Multi-Child Scholarship are integrated into a single application.
For the 2024 academic year, National Scholarship Type I provides full tuition coverage for students in the Basic Livelihood Security and Near-Poverty categories, KRW 5.7 million per year for Categories 1-3 (an increase of KRW 500,000 compared to 2023), KRW 4.2 million per year for Categories 4-6 (an increase of KRW 300,000 compared to 2023), and KRW 3.5 million per year for Categories 7-8.
The Multi-Child National Scholarship provides full tuition coverage for students in the Basic Livelihood Security and Near-Poverty categories, KRW 5.7 million per year for Categories 1-3 (an increase of KRW 500,000 compared to 2023), KRW 4.8 million per year for Categories 4-6 (an increase of KRW 300,000 compared to 2023), and KRW 4.5 million per year for Categories 7-8. For households with three or more children, full tuition is provided for all students in Categories 1-8.
National Scholarship Type II may support students up to Category 9, depending on the university’s own support criteria.
Applicants for the National Scholarship must complete consent for providing family member information and submit any additional required documents by 6:00 PM on the 19th.
