Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) conducted the ‘Children First’ traffic safety campaign to strengthen safety on school routes for the fall semester.
The campaign held on the 4th was attended by 25 officials from Gwangjin-gu Office, Gwangjin Police Station, and the Gwangjin Model Drivers Association. Public and private sectors gathered around Guui Elementary School during the morning school commute hours to help prevent traffic accidents.
On this day, Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu also held a placard himself. Holding a sign that read ‘Please Let Children Go First,’ he urged compliance with traffic safety rules.
He also guided students to cross the crosswalk safely while carefully inspecting the surroundings.
In addition, the campaign encouraged considerate driving by motorists to raise awareness. Basic rules such as ‘No speeding in school zones’ and ‘Observe stop lines’ were promoted to contribute to creating a safe traffic culture.
After the campaign, Mayor Kim Kyung-ho visited the Jayang Bokgaecheon-gil and the school zone of Shinja Elementary School, which were established this year. He thoroughly inspected the sites where traffic safety facilities were improved to check for any necessary enhancements.
First, at Jayang Bokgaecheon-gil, the sidewalk width was expanded by 0.9 meters, and highly visible yellow crosswalks and LED (Light Emitting Diode) signs were installed. Near Shinja Elementary School, the existing on-street parking lot was removed, a diagonal crosswalk was constructed, and traffic lanes were reorganized to prevent traffic accidents.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, “Children’s traffic safety is the top priority value that must be absolutely protected,” adding, “We will make every effort to eradicate traffic accidents in school zones and create a pedestrian environment where everyone can walk safely.”
In addition, Gwangjin-gu is working hard to ensure children’s traffic safety by implementing various policy projects such as ‘Dream Tree Traffic Safety Guardians,’ ‘School Zone Children Traffic Guidance,’ ‘Walking School Bus,’ and ‘Model Drivers Association Traffic Control Campaign.’
