The Sensory Integration Room at Yongin Gangnam School is a facility where activities that help stimulate and integrate various senses of students with disabilities can be conducted. About 30 people, including Mayor Lee, Kim Hee-jung, Director of Yongin Office of Education, Jeong Ha-yong, member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, parents, faculty, and students attended the ceremony.
The city and Yongin Office of Education each supported a budget of 100 million KRW, totaling 200 million KRW, to establish the Sensory Integration Room. This was achieved during a meeting last year where Mayor Lee discussed ways to improve the educational environment with principals, teachers, and parents of special schools.
The school utilized an unused classroom on the 8th floor to install about 100 types of teaching aids and equipment that stimulate various senses such as tactile, visual, cognitive, and auditory, and enable physical integration activities. They created a program where students with disabilities can stimulate their senses and develop collaboration skills through classes.
Mayor Lee said, "I hope our society becomes a world where everyone becomes one beyond differences and gaps," and added, "We will strive to create a society where people care for each other regardless of disability, and ensure that students can live in a better educational environment."
