Era of 10 Million Single-Person Households... Lotte Department Store Expands Small-Size Gift Set Inventory

Targeting Demand with Small-Sized Gift Sets

Lotte Department Store announced on the 5th that it will sell convenient and practical small-quantity and small-package sets for Chuseok.


According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of March this year, the number of single-person households in South Korea has exceeded 10 million. In response, Lotte Department Store has expanded the number of small-quantity and small-package Chuseok sets by more than 30% compared to the Lunar New Year holiday and planned various sets considering the segmented gift preferences.

In the livestock product category, the range of small-quantity sets has been expanded, and product value was enhanced by newly planning products in collaboration with famous regional Hanwoo brands. The Hanwoo small-quantity sets gained popularity with sales increasing by more than 30% compared to last year’s Chuseok during the previous Lunar New Year. In particular, products with the 'Small Premium' concept, which reduce quantity but use premium cuts for grilling, led the popularity.


Reflecting this demand, this Lunar New Year, small-package sets carefully selected with only premium cuts for steak and grilling were planned. Representative products include the 'Hanwoo Jeongseong Steak GIFT (190,000 KRW)' and 'Hanwoo So-hwakhaeng Selected GIFT (200,000 KRW)'. Additionally, collaboration with famous Hanwoo brands from regions such as Hoengseong, Uiseong, and Daegwallyeong expanded the variety of small-package products.


Fruit and vegetable sets focused on enhancing product value and cost-effectiveness. For fruit and vegetable gift sets, the quantity was reduced by up to 40%, and the sets were composed only of highly preferred items, expanding the number of items by more than 20% compared to Lunar New Year. A representative product is the ‘Essential GIFT’. Furthermore, five new ‘Designated Region GIFT’ sets, which guarantee quality through collaboration with excellent production areas nationwide and offer cost-effectiveness at around 100,000 KRW, were newly planned and introduced. Representative products include the ‘Essential Shine Apple Mango GIFT (90,000 KRW)’ and ‘Snowflake Apple GIFT (160,000 KRW)’.


Seafood products also enhanced convenience and safety. Due to the hassle of preparation, demand for small-package and easy-to-prepare seafood sets continues to increase. In fact, easy sets recorded about a 30% growth rate this Lunar New Year, receiving great customer response. The most popular sets were the ‘Beopseongpo Badamokjang Steamed True Gulbi GIFT’ and ‘Jeju Boneless Silver Hairtail GIFT’, and related small-package sets were expanded by 20% compared to this Lunar New Year.


Dosangwoo, head of the Meat team at Lotte Department Store, said, “As the number of single-person households surpasses 10 million, the demand for small-quantity and small-package holiday sets is expected to continue increasing. We plan to continue introducing products that keep pace with trends and demand, as well as various products that match the dignity of gifts for loved ones.”
