Daejeon City Selected as the Best Institution for Intellectual Property Promotion

Awarded Commendation by the Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Committee

The city of Daejeon announced that it has been selected as the top institution for intellectual property (IP) advancement and received a commendation from the Co-Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Committee.

The National Intellectual Property Committee (NIPC) is a presidential organization that promotes the national IP strategy, deliberates and coordinates IP policies and plans, and monitors and evaluates their implementation.

Last year, the NIPC conducted an “Implementation Performance Review and Evaluation of the National IP Action Plan” targeting 14 central government ministries and 17 metropolitan governments nationwide. Daejeon received the highest honor for its “IP Industry Cluster Establishment, Daejeon as a Leading City of Intellectual Property” project.

On July 22, Daejeon signed a business agreement with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the central government agency in charge of intellectual property, to promote the protection of IP rights and the creation of a virtuous ecosystem. The city is currently pursuing 10 major cooperative projects to revitalize the local economy and strengthen the capabilities of its citizens.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “In the future, intellectual property will determine the competitiveness of both local governments and the nation,” adding, “Daejeon will actively support the creation, protection, and utilization of intellectual property by academia, industry, and research institutes to foster the six major strategic projects.”
