Song Hwal-seop, an independent member of the Daejeon City Council representing Daedeok-gu 2, who had been accused of sexual harassment and was voted for expulsion by the Ethics Committee, will retain his seat after the motion was rejected in the plenary session.

On the morning of the 4th, during the 1st plenary session of the 281st extraordinary meeting, the Daejeon City Council held a vote on the disciplinary action against Song. Among the 21 council members present, excluding Song, 7 voted in favor, 13 opposed, and 1 abstained, resulting in the rejection of the motion. The result fell short of the two-thirds majority required for approval.

Previously, on the 16th of last month, the Ethics Committee held a vote on whether to expel Song or to suspend his attendance for 30 days. With a majority of the 9 committee members voting in favor, the committee decided on expulsion.

Song was accused in February, ahead of the general election, of touching the body of a woman who was working at an election campaign office in a building.
