Woor International Team Captain Recommends Players
Im Sung-jae, Kim Joo-hyung, and An Byeong-hoon to Compete Together
Opening on the 26th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Kim Si-woo will participate in the intercontinental golf competition, the Presidents Cup.
Mike Weir (Canada), captain of the Presidents Cup International Team, selected Kim Si-woo as a captain's pick on the 3rd (local time). The Presidents Cup International Team automatically selects 6 players based on world rankings, and the remaining 6 players are filled by the captain's picks. Following Im Sung-jae, Kim Joo-hyung, and An Byeong-hoon, who secured their spots through world rankings, Kim Si-woo's inclusion means that one-third of the 12 players on this year's Presidents Cup International Team are Korean players.
Among the captain's pick candidates excluding the 6 players selected by world ranking, Kim Si-woo was ranked 8th in the world rankings, but Captain Weir chose him over 2nd-ranked Cam Davis (Australia) and 7th-ranked Adam Hadwin (Canada). He highly valued the fighting spirit and team unity shown by Korean players in recent Presidents Cups.
Kim Si-woo has participated in the Presidents Cup twice, in 2017 and 2022. In the 2022 tournament, he defeated then-U.S. team member Justin Thomas in a singles match and earned 4 wins, accumulating the most points for the International Team. Captain Weir explained the reason for his selection: "Not only has he left an outstanding record at the Presidents Cup, but his extensive experience will be beneficial to our team. His ability to perform at his best under pressure will be a great asset to us. I know well how excellent his skills and consistency are."
Kim Si-woo said, "Since I was young, I have always watched the Presidents Cup and wanted to compete with the world's best golfers. I hope to contribute to the team and win this year." Captain Weir also selected Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes (all from Canada), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (South Africa), and Lee Min-woo (Australia) as captain's picks.
The Presidents Cup International Team consists of 4 Korean players (Im Sung-jae, Kim Joo-hyung, An Byeong-hoon, Kim Si-woo), 3 Australian players (Adam Scott, Jason Day, Lee Min-woo), 3 Canadian players (Conners, Pendrith, Hughes), and one player each from South Africa (Bezuidenhout) and Japan (Matsuyama Hideki). The team ace will be Matsuyama, ranked 7th in the world. The tournament will open on the 26th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
