Hanwha Ocean announced on the 4th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for submarine business cooperation with WB Group, Poland's representative defense group, while attending 'MSPO 2024,' the largest defense exhibition in Eastern Europe, held in Kielce, Poland, from the 3rd.

WB Group is one of the largest private defense companies in Europe, producing a variety of products such as military communication equipment, command, reconnaissance, and weapon control systems. It is particularly recognized for contributing to the modernization of Poland's defense capabilities through the production of the FlyEye unmanned aerial vehicle system.

This MOU aims to strengthen cooperation between the two companies to secure the Orca submarine construction project, part of the Polish government's naval modernization initiative. Through this collaboration, Hanwha Ocean and WB Group plan to establish an independent MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) package and achieve success in this project through localization. Furthermore, they intend to expand comprehensive cooperation in the shipbuilding sector in the future.

Along with the MOU signing ceremony, Hanwha Ocean presented to key stakeholders detailed plans for phased localization through the submarine MRO package and preparations for the Orca project. Additionally, Kolon Spaceworks, a domestic equipment company attending the event, introduced its localization plans related to composite materials on-site.

Jung Seung-gyun, Head of Hanwha Ocean's Special Ship Overseas Business Division, said, "This cooperation with WB Group is part of our efforts to strengthen partnerships with local companies," adding, "We expect WB Group to become a strong ally for the success of Hanwha Ocean's Orca project."
