Expanded Operation of Mapo Assistive Device Repair Center Offering Repair, Cleaning, and Disinfection Services

Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) is expanding the assistive device support project to guarantee the mobility rights of pedestrians with disabilities and reduce their economic burden.

The newly implemented "Mapo-gu Electric Assistive Device Insurance Support Project" is a measure to reduce the burden of increasing electric assistive device users and the high liability in case of accidents.

With this expansion, there is no out-of-pocket expense when processing insurance claims, and there are no limits on the total compensation amount or the number of claims, allowing residents to enjoy broader insurance benefits.

Additionally, to prepare for unforeseen legal disputes, a lawyer hiring fee of 5 million KRW has been newly established to support people with disabilities to use electric assistive devices with peace of mind.

Registered users of electric assistive devices residing in Mapo-gu are automatically enrolled.

The insurance period is from September 5, 2024, to September 4, 2025, and claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident.

Liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage due to accidents is guaranteed up to 50 million KRW. Insurance consultations and claims can be made through the dedicated consultation phone line or the WheelchairKorea.com website.

Furthermore, the district is also expanding the operation of the "Mapo Assistive Device Repair Center" to prevent breakdowns of mobility assistive devices and provide prompt repairs.

By introducing additional equipment such as steam cleaners and sterilizers, professional management services have been expanded. Skilled repair technicians visit community service centers and welfare facilities for people with disabilities to provide repair services, allowing residents to receive repairs without visiting the center in person.

When visiting the center or local hubs is difficult, applications are accepted for professional repair companies to visit homes directly. The on-site service is available up to three times per person annually, and travel expenses of up to 20,000 KRW per visit are supported.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "We will continue to provide unwavering support so that pedestrians with disabilities can live safely and conveniently," and added, "We will strive even harder to ensure that all residents can enjoy mobility rights without discrimination."
