Samsung announced on the 3rd that it will post recruitment notices by affiliates and begin the hiring process on the 4th.
This second-half recruitment will involve 19 affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Biologics, Samsung Bioepis, Samsung C&T, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Engineering & Construction (Samsung E&A), Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung Medical Center, Hotel Shilla, Cheil Worldwide, S-1 Corporation, and Samsung Welstory.
Although the exact number of hires was not disclosed, since Samsung previously set a goal to recruit 80,000 new employees over the next five years starting in 2022, this recruitment is expected to be around 10,000 people.
Applicants wishing to join can submit their applications through the Samsung recruitment website 'Samsung Careers' by the 11th. Following this, the online Samsung Aptitude Test will be held in October, interviews in November, and recruitment health checkups will be conducted. For software (SW) development positions, a practical SW competency test requiring candidates to solve given problems through coding will be administered, and for design positions, selection will be made after reviewing design portfolios.
Samsung, which introduced the open recruitment system for the first time among Korean companies in 1957, has pursued HR innovations such as establishing the first open recruitment for female college graduates in Korea (1993) and removing educational qualification requirements for employment (1995) to implement a merit-based personnel system under its 'Talent First' management philosophy for over 70 years. Furthermore, following Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s belief that "creating quality jobs is the duty of business leaders," Samsung has expanded its recruitment scale despite difficult conditions. This stands in contrast to trends such as global companies like Intel and Cisco cutting staff and 57.5% of Korea’s top 500 companies announcing no plans for new hires in the second half of the year.
In 2021, Chairman Lee said, "As a business leader, I feel a heavy responsibility for not creating more jobs," and promised, "We will invest more in technologies that do not exist elsewhere and fields where only we excel, and create better jobs." Samsung stated, "Through open recruitment, we expect to fulfill our promise to create quality jobs for youth while securing and nurturing outstanding talent, thereby contributing to enhancing the future competitiveness of both the company and the nation."
The number of Samsung Electronics’ domestic employees increased by about 25%, from 103,011 in 2018 to 128,169 as of June this year. To strengthen research and development (R&D) competitiveness, Samsung conducts not only new graduate recruitment but also hires experienced domestic professionals and outstanding foreign students. Since 2022, Samsung has implemented HR policies focused on horizontal organizational culture expansion through rank consolidation, abolishing rank-based tenure limits, and improving evaluation systems.
Samsung plans to continue innovating its recruitment and HR systems to fairly select outstanding talent and maximize employees’ potential. Additionally, Samsung explained that it is strengthening various efforts to nurture high school graduate and youth talent, such as expanding the 'Samsung Youth SW Academy' (SSAFY) education program to Meister high school graduates and specially recruiting students who achieve excellent results in the National Skills Competition.
