Smoke Billows from Manhole in Middle of Five-Lane Road... Busan Police Enforce Traffic Control

Smoke was reported coming from a manhole cover in the middle of a five-lane road, leading to traffic control measures.


According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, at around 1:33 p.m. on the 3rd, a 112 emergency call was received reporting smoke rising from a manhole cover just past the Second Mandeok Tunnel in the direction from Dongnae to Mandeok Station.


The police immediately notified relevant agencies such as the Busan Disaster Situation Room and the City Gas Corporation, and began controlling traffic. Officials from Buk-gu District Office, the fire department, and the Waterworks Headquarters also responded to the scene and are currently inspecting the site.


Additionally, traffic from Dongnae to Buk-gu through the Second Mandeok Tunnel was restricted, and vehicles were diverted to the First Mandeok Tunnel.


As of 2:38 p.m., three lanes of the Second Mandeok Tunnel have reopened to traffic, while two lanes remain closed.


The police and related agencies are investigating the cause of the smoke coming from the manhole.
