Groundbreaking Ceremony at Cheongju Central Valley on the 3rd
Kwon Oh-gap: "We Will Develop the World's Best Production Base"
HD Hyundai Electric, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai specializing in power equipment and energy solutions, is building a smart factory for low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers in Cheongju. The strategy is to develop this site into the world's top production base for distribution equipment.
On the 3rd, HD Hyundai announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new low- and medium-voltage circuit breaker factory at the new plant site in Cheongju Central Valley. The ceremony was attended by Kim Young-hwan, Governor of Chungbuk Province; Lee Beom-seok, Mayor of Cheongju; Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of HD Hyundai; and Cho Seok, President of HD Hyundai Electric.
The new plant will be a smart factory equipped with the latest automation systems and is scheduled for completion in October next year. HD Hyundai Electric plans to automate production lines and logistics through this smart factory. It will implement systematic supply chain management based on artificial intelligence (AI), covering demand forecasting, materials, and finished product inventory management. The goal is to secure manufacturing competitiveness.
With the expansion of AI technology, the demand for electricity has surged due to the increase in data centers, leading to more active investment in power infrastructure. In particular, the distribution equipment market, which distributes and supplies electricity transmitted from power plants to demand sites, is gaining attention as the next-generation core market following power equipment.
Through the establishment of the new factory, HD Hyundai Electric plans to double its production capacity of low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers to 13 million units by 2030. Upon completion, the new plant is expected to strengthen global competitiveness and contribute to regional economic revitalization through job creation.
Chairman Kwon Oh-gap said, "The new factory will become a world-class distribution equipment production base that integrates advanced technology and automation systems. We prioritize coexistence with the local community and will contribute to creating quality jobs and the development of the regional economy in Cheongju."
Governor Kim Young-hwan stated, "I am very pleased that HD Hyundai Electric, which has global competitiveness, is building a technology-intensive smart factory, a future growth engine, in our region."
HD Hyundai Electric is also pursuing expansion of transformer factories both domestically and internationally. In July, it held a completion ceremony for a specialized transformer warehouse of its North American production corporation in Alabama, USA. It is also modifying the layout of its transformer factory in Ulsan and constructing a new iron core factory.
