Since last year, the Gaya High School Alumni Mentor Group and the BNB Scholarship Foundation have been supporting scholarship programs and mentoring initiatives for the development of their alma mater and juniors, and they provide career lectures by alumni seniors two to three times per semester.

In this special lecture titled "Mechanical Engineering and Secondary Batteries," Yoo Dongjoo explained the importance of discovering new and renewable energy sources (secondary batteries) in response to climate change and discussed the attitude that future generations should have in facing a changing environment. He emphasized to his juniors, "I hope you become someone who can see the whole world, not just a fragment of technology in any field." The lecture was followed by a Q&A session where he communicated with students about study methods in high school and concerns about career paths.

After graduating from Gaya High School in February 2008, Yoo Dongjoo worked as a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory in the United States. In 2022, he was appointed as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Korea University, where he is responsible for research and education in the field of next-generation battery systems.

The special lecture was attended by Kim Kyungdoo (24th class), former principal of Gaya High School; Jang Jongsik (24th class), former teacher at Gaya High School; and Seo Byungsam (26th class), Deputy Director of External Cooperation at the Busan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Gaya High School Alumni Mentor Group.

The BNB Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Koo Kyungyeol, CEO of BNB Steel. It provides support to orphanages and university students in the Pohang area, where the company operates, as well as scholarships for Gaya High School graduates and current students in Busan and Seoul, and supports the operation of the Gaya High School Mentor Group.

BNB Scholarship Foundation Chairman Koo Kyungyeol said, "Senior alumni with experience and wisdom want to become guides for juniors who are struggling with their studies and entry into society," adding, "In the second half of this year, we plan to select more scholarship recipients and expand our scholarship support and mentoring programs."
