The National Assembly Holds 'Yeosu·Gwangyang Port Future Development Forum'

YGPA Holds Inaugural Meeting of Research Association
Expected to Play a Key Role in Establishing Maritime Industry Hub
Assembly Members Joo Chul-hyun and Kwon Hyang-yeop Among Many Participants

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, hereinafter YGPA) will hold a forum at the National Assembly for the future development of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports.


YGPA announced on the 3rd that the inauguration ceremony of the 'Yeosu·Gwangyang Port Future Development Research Association' and the 1st forum will be held at 2 p.m. on the 4th in the main conference room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building.


This event is co-hosted and organized by the offices of National Assembly members Joo Cheol-hyun and Kwon Hyang-yeop, along with YGPA, and is supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeollanam-do, Yeosu City, and Gwangyang City.


In particular, this event is expected to serve as an important milestone for Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports to establish themselves as the center of the marine industry and to lay the foundation for the future development of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports and cooperation among related organizations.

The event will be divided into two parts. The first part, the 'Inauguration Ceremony of the Yeosu·Gwangyang Port Future Development Research Association,' will be attended by a total of 15 National Assembly members, including Joo Cheol-hyun, Kwon Hyang-yeop, Park Ji-won, Lee Gae-ho, Seo Sam-seok, Shin Jeong-hoon, Kim Won-i, Kim Moon-soo, Jo Gye-won, Moon Geum-ju, Min Hyung-bae, Jeong Jin-wook, Jeon Jin-sook, Park Gyun-taek, and Cheon Ha-ram, to announce the launch of the research association.


The research association plans to hold joint research and forums regularly with the government, academia, and the private sector to discuss various topics in depth, including the future development of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports.


In the second part, Professor Kim Seung-cheol of the Department of Trade at Yeungnam University will give a presentation on the theme of 'Future Development and Strategy of Yeosu·Gwangyang Ports,' with Professor Kim Hyun-duk of the Department of Logistics Business at Suncheon National University serving as the chair.


Panelists include Um Ik-hwan, Director of Port Logistics Planning Division at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries; Kim Sang-tae, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Yeosu City; Lee Hwa-yeop, Director of the Future Industry Bureau of Gwangyang City; Bae Jong-wook, Professor of Logistics and Transportation at Chonnam National University; and Park Hyo-yeon, Professor of Cultural Tourism Management at Chonnam National University, who will engage in in-depth discussions on the future development direction of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports.


YGPA President Park Seong-hyun said, “Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports are South Korea’s number one export-import gateway ports and the top industrial and economic centers in Jeollanam-do, playing a significant role in national and regional economic development. However, due to poor political and economic foundations, it has been difficult to raise a unified voice. This inauguration ceremony and forum of the research association will serve as a new turning point, and all stakeholders must join forces to create the future of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports together.”
