Automotive electronics company Kumho HT is advancing the sophistication of related technologies as sales of its Battery Management System (BMS) are rapidly increasing. Kumho HT announced on the 3rd that it will internalize BMS design technology to accelerate performance growth.
Since last year, Kumho HT has entered the new electric vehicle BMS business by producing 'BMS PCB ASSY (Printed Circuit Board Assembly)' products. With a significant expansion in the number of vehicle models applying BMS this year, the company succeeded in exceeding last year's annual performance within just the first half of the year.
Based on top-tier design capabilities among domestic automotive electronics companies, Kumho HT plans to secure BMS design technology to maximize sales and profits. As of August this year, Kumho HT's specialized design personnel number 63, which is ten times more than its competitors. The company continuously strengthens its technological capabilities by independently designing and producing various automotive electronic products.
BMS is a core system in electric vehicles that monitors the battery's status in real time and maintains balance among cells to maximize battery safety and lifespan. It is used not only in electric vehicles but also in various fields such as energy storage systems (ESS) and smartphones.
Recently, the importance of BMS has increased following an electric vehicle fire incident in an underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Cheongna, Incheon. Applying BMS enables real-time monitoring of battery voltage, current, and temperature, and maintains balance among individual battery cells to prevent risks such as overheating and overcharging.
A Kumho HT official said, "With the rapid increase in sales of electric vehicle BMS, which has been a new business since last year, we decided to secure in-house design technology for BMS to maximize performance," adding, "We will develop next-generation BMS based on differentiated design capabilities in the automotive electronics field."
He continued, "Sales of BMS and existing automotive electronic products both grew in the first half of this year, recording the highest performance ever for a half-year period, and with recent surges in BMS orders, the strong performance trend is expected to continue in the second half," adding, "At the same time, to respond to the expansion of the autonomous driving market, we are also advancing existing automotive electronic products and will secure new growth engines through this."
