Exhibition of Giant 'Hamo' Sculpture
Jinju Tourism Promotion Zone Operated
Jinju City, Gyeongnam announced on the 3rd that it will be exhibiting a giant 10-meter-tall sculpture of the tourism character "Hamo" and operating a Jinju tourism promotion zone at the Meeting Square in Seoul Olympic Park until the 11th.
"Hamo," which started gaining explosive popularity after winning three awards?Grand Prize, Hot Star Award, and Rising Award?at the 2022 National Character Competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has now become the representative character of the local government. Hamo is a character modeled after an otter inhabiting Namgang and Jinyangho, and its name comes from a Jinju dialect word meaning agreement and positivity.
This exhibition, under the slogan "Hamo, Everything Will Be Alright!", features the Hamo character as a public art piece, aiming to deliver Hamo's unique positive energy to people nationwide. At the promotion zone, visitors are introduced to Jinju's representative tourist attractions and festivals, promoting the diverse charms of Jinju as a tourist city.
In addition, during the exhibition period, a Hamo SNS event is held daily from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., attracting the interest of visitors. Guests who follow the official Hamo Instagram account (hamo_in_jinju) or the YouTube channel (Jinju Deokhu Hamo TV), or upload a photo taken with the giant Hamo to their personal SNS, can receive Hamo merchandise on site.
From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., the sculpture is illuminated, allowing visitors to enjoy the giant Hamo even at night, making it a new nighttime photo spot for Seoul residents and tourists alike.
A Jinju City official stated, "We hope that visitors to the Hamo character public art exhibition will find encouragement and positivity while meeting Hamo, the icon of optimism. We ask for your continued interest and support for Hamo, Jinju's tourism ambassador, in the future."
