3rd Only One Earth Film Festival Opens on the 5th... Building Public Consensus on Climate Crisis

May 5-9 at Busan Cinema Center: Environmental Film Festival, Environmental Video and Poster Contest, Conference, Green Life Show

Busan Metropolitan City announced that the 3rd Only One Earth Film Festival will be held under the theme "Again, Earth, Our Only Home" from September 5 to 9 at the Busan Cinema Center and its surrounding area.

The event is organized by Nature's Rights Advocacy (Chairman Jang Jeguk) and the Busan Cinema Center (CEO Kim Jinhae), with support from the city, the Ministry of Environment, and others.


The Only One Earth Film Festival has been held since 2022 to foster public awareness of the urgent changes in the global environment that threaten human survival, through screenings of environmental films and videos, seminars, exhibitions, and hands-on activities.


This year's event consists of the Environmental Film Festival, Environmental Video and Poster Contest, Conference, and Exhibitions & Experiences. The opening ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on September 5 at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center.


The Environmental Film Festival will screen 41 works from 29 countries, all centered on the theme of the climate crisis. Opening and closing films will be screened at the respective ceremonies, and all screenings are open to the public free of charge.


The opening film is "The Here Now Project," a documentary directed by Greg Jacobs and Jon Siskel, which captures the reality of climate change using mobile phone footage shot by people around the world.


The closing film will be one of the entries from the Environmental Video Contest. The closing ceremony will be held on September 9 at the medium-sized theater of the Busan Cinema Center.


The Environmental Video and Poster Contest consists of screenings, exhibitions, and an awards ceremony, which will take place at 7 p.m. on September 9 at the medium-sized theater of the Busan Cinema Center, alongside the closing ceremony.


The Environmental Video Contest received 2,133 entries from 129 countries between March 4 and May 14. Twelve works were selected for screening from September 5 to 9, and eight outstanding works will be chosen for awards.


The Environmental Poster Contest, held from July 3 to August 3 for elementary, middle, and high school students, received 138 entries. Nine works will be awarded at the closing ceremony at 7 p.m. on September 9 in the medium-sized theater. The selected works will be displayed in the outdoor plaza of the Busan Cinema Center during the event and will also be used in future merchandise (goods, calendars, etc.).


The Conference will be held at 2 p.m. on September 5 in the 17th-floor conference room of Dongseo University Centum Campus, under the themes "The Present State of Climate Change," "Climate Change and Energy Transition," and "Directions for Climate Crisis Adaptation."


Distinguished speakers and panelists, including Lee Junyi, Professor at Pusan National University Climate Science Research Institute; Bae Boram, Head of Regional Transition Research at Green Transition Institute; Ahn Byungcheol, Professor at Wonkwang University; Kim Baekmin, Professor at Pukyong National University; Han Inseong, Head of Climate Change Research at the National Institute of Fisheries Science; and Anson Chan, Chairman of Bonds Group, will participate to discuss these topics.


The Green Life Show will be held from September 6 to 8 at the outdoor plaza of the Busan Cinema Center, featuring eco-friendly product booths, the White Elephant Market, and environmental experience programs.


The eco-friendly product booths will be divided into six zones with over 40 booths, and more than 30 companies will participate to exhibit and sell various eco-friendly products.


At the White Elephant Market, used goods priced under 10,000 KRW can be sold and exchanged, with 10% of the sales proceeds donated to environmental causes.


Environmental experience programs include making traditional Sotdae (wooden totems) and creating terrariums with moss and plants. An environmental leadership education program will be held at 3 p.m. on September 7 at the outdoor stage of the Busan Cinema Center.


In particular, at 6 p.m. on September 8, a recycled mini car racing competition will be held for families with children aged 6 to 10 who have registered in advance.


Tickets for films screened at the Only One Earth Film Festival can be reserved through the Busan Cinema Center website or app, and on-site ticketing is also available.
