Opening of 'Gurip Haengbokhan Yeong-i Daycare Center' in Yeongdeungpo-dong Public Complex Center on September 1... Capacity of 67 children
Enhancing public childcare accessibility and utilization by meeting childcare demand from new apartment move-ins
Committed to creating a 'Child-Friendly Yeongdeungpo' through easing parenting burdens and expanding balanced public childcare infrastructure
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 1st that it has opened the ‘Gu-rip Haengbokhan Yeong-i Daycare Center’ to strengthen public childcare infrastructure in response to the increasing childcare demand due to the large-scale move-in of apartment complexes.
The newly opened ‘Gu-rip Haengbokhan Yeong-i Daycare Center’ is located in the Yeongdeungpo-dong Public Complex Center. This is to meet the childcare demand arising from the new move-in of large apartment complexes nearby and to establish a balanced public childcare infrastructure. Furthermore, the plan is to improve accessibility to daycare centers by also addressing the childcare demand of nearby large-scale apartment complexes with low public childcare supply rates.
The size of ‘Gu-rip Haengbokhan Yeong-i Daycare Center’ is 446㎡, with a capacity of 67 children. Considering the high demand for infant care from young couples, the center has expanded dedicated classes for ages 0 to 1. It operates a total of 10 classes: ▲3 classes for 0-year-olds ▲3 classes for 1-year-olds ▲2 classes for 2-year-olds ▲1 class for 3-year-olds ▲1 class for 4- and 5-year-olds, providing age-specific tailored childcare services.
Before opening, the district completed recruitment of children, admission procedures, and preparation of teaching materials and educational tools in line with the apartment move-in schedule to minimize inconvenience for residents. Special attention was paid to the interior environment, maximizing natural lighting so that children can feel nature and live healthily. Spaces such as a sand playground were also prepared so that children can enjoy playing regardless of the season.
Going forward, the district plans to provide extended night and holiday childcare, as well as 24-hour childcare, to keep pace with the changing childcare environment such as diversified working patterns of caregivers and to fill childcare gaps for dual-income families. Additionally, an integrated class for children with disabilities will be operated to actively support vulnerable childcare.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will strive to improve the quality and environment of public childcare so that children, the treasures of our community, can grow up healthily without losing their smiles.” He added, “We will continue to expand national and public daycare centers that caregivers can trust and entrust their children to, and work towards realizing ‘Yeongdeungpo, a city good for raising children.’”
