Toyota Resumes Production of Three Models Subject to 'Shipment Suspension' After Three Months

On the 2nd, NHK reported that Toyota resumed production of the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross, which had been subject to the Japanese government's shipment suspension order. Production of these three models was halted on June 6 after misconduct was discovered during the process of obtaining the 'type designation,' a certification required for mass automobile production.

In addition to these models, the Japanese government found further quality certification misconduct in seven other models, including the Lexus LM, and issued a corrective order to Toyota Motor Corporation at the end of July, demanding fundamental improvements.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) recently reported that Toyota has set a policy to reduce its global production target for this year from approximately 10.3 million units to about 9.8 million units, lowering it by around 500,000 units, and has communicated this to major parts suppliers. Nikkei analyzed the causes as the certification misconduct issue and sluggish sales in the Chinese market.
