A Total of 100 Million Won Prepaid at Pohang Traditional Markets Over 5 Years
POSCO, together with its POSCO Honored Partner (PHP) suppliers, carried out a 'Good Prepayment' campaign at Yeonil Traditional Market near the steelworks through the 'POSCO PHP Volunteer Group' ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
The POSCO PHP Volunteer Group is taking a group commemorative photo after conducting the 'Good Prepayment' activity.
This annual event, now in its fifth year, involves the POSCO PHP Volunteer Group making prepayments at selected stores in the traditional markets of Pohang. They issue vouchers for the prepaid amounts, which are then distributed to vulnerable groups in the region.
In cooperation with the Yeonil Traditional Market Merchants Association, the group made prepayments worth approximately 20 million KRW at selected stores, using the Pohang Love Gift Certificate, a local currency.
The prepaid tickets are distributed to vulnerable residents in the Yeonil area through the Yeonil Administrative Welfare Center, and can be exchanged for rice, side dishes, vegetables, and other goods sold at the traditional market.
This year's prepayment campaign was joined by Lee Dongup, a Gyeongbuk Provincial Council member, as well as Bang Jingil, Choi Kwangyeol, and Choi Haegon, Pohang City Council members, who visited the stores in person.
Kim Taeuk, Head of Equipment and Materials Procurement at POSCO, said, "The Good Prepayment campaign by the POSCO PHP Volunteer Group has continued over the years and seems to have become a unique tradition of sharing in the region. I hope it brings vitality to small business owners and spreads warmth throughout the community."
Local merchants near Pohang Steelworks stated, "Thanks to the ongoing prepayment activities, small business owners receive great support. We are grateful to the POSCO PHP Volunteer Group for helping to revitalize the traditional market ahead of the Chuseok holiday."
POSCO's various community support activities not only fulfill the company's social responsibilities but also create multiple benefits, such as revitalizing the local economy and supporting vulnerable groups.
