The Yuseong Police Station in Daejeon announced on the 2nd that they have booked and are investigating Mr. A (in his 20s) on charges of hit-and-run causing injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving.
At around 3:40 a.m. that day, Mr. A was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on a road near the Bukdaejeon Interchange in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. He is accused of consecutively colliding with three vehicles, including a passenger car and a truck that were waiting at a traffic signal ahead, and then fleeing the scene. As a result of the accident, two people, including the passenger car driver, were injured and transported to the hospital.
Immediately after the accident, Mr. A fled to a cafe about 50 meters away, abandoned his car, and hid in nearby bushes, but was caught by the police following a report from another driver.
At the time of arrest, his blood alcohol concentration was found to exceed the level for license cancellation. The police plan to transfer him for prosecution after completing a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident.
