Busan Regional Tax Office Holds Traditional Market Shopping Event for Chuseok

Listening to Market Vendors' Difficulties and Supporting Traditional Market Revitalization

Kim Dongil, Commissioner of the Busan Regional Tax Office, visited Bujeon Market Town (Bujeon Market), the largest traditional market complex in Busan, on the 2nd ahead of the Chuseok holiday. He held a meeting and shopping event with Shin Younguk, president of the merchants’ association, and executives to listen to the difficulties faced by merchants.

Eight markets, including Bujeon Market Town, Bujeon Market, Bujeon Sangga Market, Bujeon Ginseng Market, Bujeon Agricultural and Marine Products Early Morning Market, and Bujeon Gijang Alley Market, have been combined into one belt as part of efforts to revitalize the local commercial district.

This visit was organized to comfort market merchants suffering from the ongoing heat and to listen directly to voices on site in order to explore practical tax support measures.

During the meeting, Commissioner Kim Dongil listened to the challenges faced by market merchants, which have been exacerbated by the increase in online distribution, competition from nearby large supermarkets and department stores, and rising prices. He stated, “We are considering the role of the National Tax Service in boosting domestic demand and will actively provide tax support so that small taxpayers can focus solely on their livelihoods.”

After the meeting, he visited various stores in the market to hear merchants’ concerns, personally purchased local agricultural, livestock, and fishery products such as fish cakes, meat, and fruit, and pledged that Busan Regional Tax Office staff would use traditional markets.

The Busan Regional Tax Office plans to provide various tax consulting services such as tax counseling to traditional markets through proactive administration, continue to visit sites related to people’s livelihoods to directly experience the real economy, and realize “a National Tax Service that gets the job done right and is recognized by the public” through practical tax support that truly helps.
