"Betting My Life, Won't Let It Go"…Police Officer Suspected of Threatening Child's Homeroom Teacher Cleared of Charges

On the 2nd, Yonhap News reported, "The Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it decided not to prosecute parent A, who was accused of threats at a middle school in Osan City, at the end of last month." A is accused of visiting the school where their child is enrolled last December and meeting with the vice principal and another teacher, saying things like "I want an apology from B, my child's homeroom teacher."

B claimed that when A visited to complain, A made statements implying threats, such as "I swear on my position that I will not let this go." The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, after legal consultation, judged A's remarks to constitute threats and filed a complaint with the police in April.

A is understood to be a current police officer affiliated with the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency.

Following an investigation, the police confirmed that B was not present during A's meeting with the vice principal and others, and that A originally visited the school to complain to a teacher other than B. While it was true that A made statements similar in intent to the education office's complaint, the police concluded that there was no evidence of threats specifically targeting B and decided not to prosecute, citing "no charges."

Meanwhile, A's side is also known to have filed a complaint against B in January for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes. A's side alleges that B abused their child, including pinching, while serving as the child's homeroom teacher last year.

The police found B's alleged offenses credible and referred the case to the prosecution in June, but are currently reviewing the case again following the prosecution's request for supplementary investigation. A police official stated, "Since this is an ongoing investigation, it is difficult to provide detailed answers."
