KAIST Professors' Council Selects Three Candidates for Next President Recommendation

The KAIST Professors' Council Presidential Candidate Recommendation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Recommendation Committee) announced on the 2nd that it has selected three candidates for the presidential election.


The candidates selected by the Recommendation Committee (in order of election symbols) are Professor Bae Chung-sik from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Kim Jeong-ho from the School of Electrical Engineering, and Professor Ryu Seok-young from the School of Computing.

Professor Bae previously served as the Dean of the College of Engineering and was the head of the Science and Technology New Deal Task Force for COVID-19 response. Professor Kim served as the Director of Research Affairs and is currently the head of the KAIST-Samsung Electronics Industry-Academic Cooperation Center. Professor Ryu is currently the head of the School of Computing and also serves as a member of the Presidential Committee on National Artificial Intelligence.


The Recommendation Committee will hold three joint meetings with the candidates and Q&A sessions for each candidate to gather opinions from professors on campus.


Subsequently, on the 15th of next month, a presentation of candidates' views and a debate will be held, and two presidential candidates will be finalized through voting by the professors.


The two selected presidential candidates will officially participate in the ‘18th KAIST Presidential Recruitment’ organized by the Board of Trustees, upon recommendation by the Professors' Council.


The 18th president of KAIST will be finally decided by the KAIST Board of Trustees before February next year, when the current president's term ends.
