Exem, a company specializing in IT integrated performance management, announced on the 2nd that it has signed a contract to support the enterprise-wide digital transformation (DX) of KSS Shipping.
The KSS Shipping DX project is a mid- to long-term initiative planned to start in September this year. In this year's project, Exem will utilize its artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies to diagnose the current digital environment of KSS Shipping, a leading domestic shipping company, and establish a DX promotion strategy along with a phased roadmap. Once the master plan is established, the goal is to build an enterprise-wide integrated business platform for KSS Shipping, followed by the construction of a data-driven intelligent platform to ultimately provide intelligent data services.
KSS Shipping, a leading domestic gas and chemical specialized shipping company, is the largest owner of ultra-large gas carriers (VLGC) in Korea and has been steadily growing since its founding. As of last month, it owns a total fleet of 33 vessels, including 14 VLGCs. Within the shipping industry, the global chemical tanker market, which KSS Shipping belongs to as a niche market, is growing at an average annual rate of about 5%, and the market size is expected to reach approximately $45 billion by 2035.
Through this DX project with Exem, KSS Shipping plans to eliminate inefficiencies in its dispersed legacy business systems and increase the utilization of data. By building an intelligent business integration platform that can define and solve problems based on standardized data, KSS Shipping aims to set the DX standard for the shipping industry, befitting its reputation as Korea's top specialized shipping company. This year's project will focus on establishing the digital transformation master plan, i.e., the basic DX plan.
Exem plans to support the successful DX of KSS Shipping based on its expertise in energy big data accumulated through big data projects with Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Energy Agency, as well as its extensive experience in big data projects across various industries. It intends to develop improvement measures for key factors that determine competitiveness in the shipping industry, such as vessel operation and accident management, and equipment management.
Goh Pyung-seok, CEO of Exem, said, "We will successfully complete the KSS Shipping DX project and lead advancements in big data-based eco-friendly navigation and smart vessel management, which are pressing challenges in the shipping industry."
