30 Jeonse Buses Deployed, 19 Additional Gyeongjeon Line Services
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it has prepared an emergency transportation plan to minimize inconvenience to citizens following the Gyeonggi Province Bus Labor Union Council's announcement on the 4th to suspend operations until wage negotiations are settled.
The Yongin city transportation companies affiliated with the Gyeonggi Province Bus Labor Union Council include five companies such as Gyeongnam Passenger and Daewon Express. It is expected that 558 buses on 76 routes, including intercity and city buses, will be affected by the strike. This accounts for 57% of Yongin City's total 987 buses on 256 routes. However, for village buses, 339 out of 345 buses are not subject to the strike and will operate normally.
Since the 29th of last month, the city has established an Emergency Transportation Countermeasures Headquarters led by the Director of the Transportation Policy Bureau to proactively minimize commuting inconveniences for citizens.
First, starting from the first bus on the 4th, 30 charter buses will be deployed mainly in Cheoin-gu and Giheung-gu, where it is difficult to use alternative transportation such as railroads or village buses on the routes expected to be affected by the strike. The city will divide the areas where city bus operations are suspended into six hubs and operate charter buses to major subway stations and Yongin Terminal to encourage citizens to use the Yongin Light Rail Transit or Bundang Line.
In addition, the Yongin Light Rail Transit will increase service by 19 trips per day, focusing vehicle dispatch during peak commuting hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
For citizens' convenience, the city has also requested cooperation from each transportation company to operate village buses and taxis intensively during commuting hours. There are currently 1,917 taxis operating within the region.
Information regarding the Gyeonggi Province Bus Labor Union Council's strike and the routes where charter buses are deployed can be found on the Yongin City website.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City urged, "Citizens should refer to the Yongin City website or broadcasts to avoid disruptions in daily life and use alternative transportation such as carpooling, subways, or light rail transit."
