Busan Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo Takes Direct Action to Eradicate Deepfake Sex Crimes

Legal Education to Prevent and Eradicate Violence and Delinquency in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo) has taken strong action to eradicate and prevent the rapidly increasing deepfake sex crimes in schools.

Since June, Busan Office of Education has been operating a special 'legal education' lecture series for all elementary, middle, and high schools in Busan, as the first in the nation to proactively respond to the spread of deepfake sex crimes. The lectures are led by the superintendent, lawyers, and police officers.

The Office of Education has focused on changing students' perceptions that image synthesis and distribution using artificial intelligence and other technologies are just pranks rather than crimes. In addition, it is emphasizing the importance of preventing school violence, infringement of teachers' rights, drug abuse, and cyber gambling.

As of the end of August, 279 out of 625 elementary, middle, and high schools (44.3%) have completed the education program, and the remaining schools are scheduled to finish by December 13.

Among these, Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo personally gave lectures at a total of seven schools, including Hyehwa Girls' High School, one middle school, and six high schools. Starting in September, legal education will be provided at nine additional schools.

In addition to visiting schools for student education, a legal education session was also held on the 2nd in the main auditorium of the Office of Education for all employees of the main office, education support offices, and affiliated institutions including libraries.

Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "The Office of Education is fully committed to raising awareness of the seriousness of various forms of violence and delinquency, including deepfake sex crimes, and to improving perceptions to prevent them," and added, "We will take the lead in rooting out violence and delinquency in schools with a sense of responsibility to ensure that not a single student is left behind and that all students can achieve their dreams in a safe environment."
