TKG Aekang, a specialized manufacturer of piping materials, announced on the 2nd that it has been selected as a research performing company for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s ‘2024 New Support Projects for Materials and Components Technology Development.’
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy supports the development of materials and components technologies to enhance the global competitiveness of the domestic manufacturing industry, reduce overseas dependency, advance domestic technology, and secure future markets. Through this project, TKG Aekang will participate jointly with academia and research institutes in developing ‘hydrogen transport piping components with long-term durability of over 10 years.’ The research period is from July 2024 to December 2027.
Since the establishment of the hydrogen economy activation roadmap in 2019, directions for becoming a leading hydrogen economy nation have been presented through the 2050 carbon neutrality strategy and the 1st Basic Plan for Hydrogen Economy Implementation, increasing interest in related technologies across various industries. There is a growing demand for the development of piping and connection technologies, which are core components essential for building the hydrogen ecosystem, specifically for hydrogen storage and transport.
As a specialized piping materials company, TKG Aekang plans to develop advanced high-pressure hydrogen transport piping components for mobility with long-term durability of over 10 years, based on its accumulated technology and know-how, and propose standardization technologies. The joint research and development project with academia and research institutes is expected to achieve effects such as △expanding application in the hydrogen mobility industry through hydrogen transport piping development △securing structural and design technologies for hydrogen piping △developing Korea’s first high-pressure hydrogen polymer piping △reducing product costs through domestic manufacturing localization.
A TKG Aekang official stated, “TKG Aekang has established its position by leading the domestic residential piping materials market and is recently expanding its industrial scope to industrial piping with its technological capabilities,” adding, “As hydrogen energy is utilized in various domestic industrial fields and the need for safe piping grows, we will do our best to contribute to establishing infrastructure in the hydrogen industry through this national project.”
