As Chuseok seasonal products are being actively shipped to wholesale markets, the prices of apples and pears have fallen by 13.2% and 7.0% respectively compared to the previous year.

This visit was arranged to inspect the shipment status at the wholesale market and encourage on-site personnel, as the production volume of major fruits such as apples and pears is expected to recover to above average levels and shipments are expected to increase during the holiday period.
During the visit, Minister Song observed the fruit auction site for apples and pears and said, "This year, the production of fruits such as apples and pears is good, and the production volume has increased. Shipments are also expected to increase during the Chuseok period, making the wholesale market, busy with the supply of seasonal products from early morning, look even more vibrant. Since our farmers in the production areas have worked hard to produce high-quality and delicious fruits, I ask the wholesale market to do their best to ensure the supply is quickly delivered to consumers."
Kwon Jang-hee, CEO of Seoul Cheonggwa, who guided the site visit, said, "Due to the heatwave, shipments that could not be made until last week have started to be shipped in earnest from this week, and fruits with good marketability and affordable prices have begun to be listed. More are expected to come out until next week. Purchasing fruits just before Chuseok at home could also be a reasonable consumption strategy."
In fact, the wholesale price of 10kg of apples dropped from 83,736 won on the 26th of last month to 69,357 won on the 30th of the same month, a 13.2% decrease compared to the previous year. The price of 15kg of pears also fell from 52,985 won to 42,104 won during the same period, which is 7% lower than the same period last year.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to supply a record-high volume of 153,000 tons (1.6 times the usual amount) of seasonal products including fruits, livestock, and forest products to stabilize Chuseok grocery prices. Along with supplying livelihood gift sets and promoting discount support projects, the ministry will also provide thrifty consumption information and make every effort to manage the supply and demand of seasonal products.
