Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 2nd that it has trained the nation’s first "Tongbanjang Childcare Personnel" to solidify the neighborhood-level care system.
To this end, the district operated a "Childcare Personnel Training Course" exclusively for Tongbanjang through the Seodaemun Women’s Human Resources Development Center. After conducting a demand survey and two project briefing sessions, 13 Tongbanjang participants were recruited and recently completed a total of 120 hours of education over six weeks.
The training covered topics such as the role of childcare personnel, infant and toddler care, and the purpose and significance of childcare, along with field practice and consulting.
These Tongbanjang will be hired through the "Seodaemun-gu Childcare Support Center" and will work as "Idolbomi" (childcare helpers). The district expects that the Tongbanjang serving as Idolbomi will actively respond to urgent childcare needs in each neighborhood and help resolve mismatches in care services caused by reasons such as long distances.
A Tongbanjang from Seodaemun-gu said, "I raised three children, but I think I didn’t know much at the time," and added, "I will actively apply what I learned in the training to my activities as an Idolbomi."
Mayor Lee Seongheon stated, "We will further strive to establish a ‘neighborhood-level care system’ where community members work together to support children’s growth, as exemplified by this Tongbanjang childcare personnel training case."
