Dobong-gu to Hold 'Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Petition Delivery Ceremony' on August 30
Signature Campaign Led by Private Promotion Committee Since July 25... Approximately 170,000 Signatures Collected in One Month
District to Deliver Final Petition to Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Related Agencies in September
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) received the final petition signatures from the 'Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Petition Promotion Committee (Co-Chairmen Park Sang-yong and Kim Seong-pil).' The total number of signatures was counted at 168,282.
On August 30, the district held the 'Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Petition Signature Delivery Ceremony.' About 10 people attended the ceremony, including Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok, the co-chairmen of the Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Petition Promotion Committee, and committee members.
At the ceremony, the co-chairmen reported on the achievements and the delivery process took place. Afterwards, a discussion meeting followed.
At the discussion, Park Sang-yong, co-chairman of the promotion committee, said, "Through this petition campaign, we were able to confirm the love for Taekwondo and the desire to attract Kukkiwon among our residents. Since about 170,000 residents joined forces, we will continue to work hard until the final attraction of Kukkiwon."
Kim Seong-pil, co-chairman of the promotion committee, expressed his determination, saying, "As a Taekwondo practitioner, I felt a sense of duty and worked very hard for a month. I will do my best until the day Kukkiwon attraction is realized."
Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok stated, "I thank everyone who participated in the petition campaign for attracting Kukkiwon to Dobong-gu," adding, "Although there will be many difficulties until the actual attraction, we will do our utmost to gather the will and intention of the residents and ensure the attraction."
The district plans to deliver the petition signatures to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in September and express its determination to proceed. On September 21, the district will hold the 'Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Prayer Walking Event' to continue the momentum of the petition campaign.
Earlier, on July 25, the district launched a district-wide petition campaign to urge the relocation of Kukkiwon to the former chemical unit site in Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu (around Dobong-dong 438).
The petition campaign, conducted online and offline for a month, attracted active participation not only from Dobong-gu but also from neighboring district residents and related organizations, achieving 168,282 signatures, far exceeding the initial goal of 100,000.
