Residents Present 'Alley Cleaning King' Certificate to Ryoo Kyung-gi, Jungnang-gu Mayor, in Appreciation
Ryukyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu (third from the left), received the 'Alley Cleaning King' certificate from the residents.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) joined residents of Muk 1-dong on the 28th of last month for the 154th Morning Alley Cleaning event.
On this day, the cleaning took place along a roughly 900-meter stretch from the Muk 1-dong Community Center to Wonmuk Fountain Park. Together with the ‘Kkalkkeumi Volunteer Group’ composed of Muk 1-dong residents, they collected trash discarded in habitual illegal dumping areas and swept every corner of the streets to help create a clean environment.
In particular, this day was more than just an environmental cleanup activity; it was a special occasion aimed at strengthening communication with residents through the morning alley cleaning. Residents presented Mayor Ryu with a certificate of appointment and a symbolic golden broom as a token of gratitude for his dedication and hard work, officially naming him the ‘Alley Cleaning King.’
Among the 25 district mayors of Seoul, Ryu Kyung-gi, the mayor of Jungnang-gu, is uniquely known as the ‘Mayor who cleans the streets.’ Since taking office in July 2018, he has conducted early morning alley cleanings with residents. To date, the 154th session has seen about 4,900 participants and covered a cleaning distance of 127 km.
A resident who participated in the alley cleaning said, “Since starting the morning alley cleaning, residents’ interest in cleanliness has increased, illegal dumping has decreased, and more people have joined the volunteer efforts. It feels good to see the streets becoming cleaner with my own eyes.”
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “I sincerely thank all the residents who joined the cleaning from early morning. I will continue to do my best to make Jungnang clean and tidy.”
