Artificial intelligence (AI) chip manufacturer Nvidia is reportedly discussing joining as an investor in additional funding for ChatGPT developer OpenAI, Bloomberg News reported on the 1st (local time), citing sources.
According to the report, Nvidia is discussing investing about $100 million (approximately 130 billion KRW) in OpenAI. Earlier, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported on the 29th that Nvidia and Apple are considering investments in OpenAI.
Bloomberg pointed out that if these discussions materialize, the global tech industry's big three, including Microsoft (MS), Apple, and Nvidia, will all provide financial support to OpenAI. MS has invested $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019, holding a 49% stake. Nvidia supplies AI chips it manufactures in large quantities to OpenAI, and Apple signed a partnership with OpenAI last June to incorporate AI features into its latest smartphone, the iPhone 16, launching next month.
OpenAI's current funding round is being led by the well-known U.S. venture capital firm Strive Capital and is reported to value OpenAI at over $100 billion (approximately 133.9 trillion KRW). Nvidia, Apple, MS, OpenAI, and Strive Capital have all declined to comment on the matter.
