Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) began a series of residents' assemblies, touring 17 neighborhoods throughout September, starting with Dongcheon-dong on the 31st of last month.
Seo-gu will hold residents' assemblies at various locations such as schools and parks in 17 neighborhoods between the 5th and 28th, beginning with Dongcheon-dong, Yang 3-dong, Nongsung 1-dong, and Gwangcheon-dong on the 31st of last month. However, Pungam-dong was excluded from the second half events as its assembly was already held in the first half of this year.
The residents' assembly is a representative decision-making process where residents, centered around the Residents' Autonomy Committee, directly seek solutions to village issues and decide on village projects to be promoted next year. So far, the Residents' Autonomy Committee has gathered residents' opinions by organizing the residents' assembly promotion committee, holding school (student) assemblies, apartment assemblies, and village agenda schools, selecting village agendas to be submitted to the assembly.
Key agendas proposed include projects for communication and harmony with neighbors such as "Village festivals with resident participation" and "Operation of resident participation programs," as well as projects reflecting the Brand Identity (BI) of each neighborhood.
In particular, this time, the village BI will be incorporated to promote a festival-style event where various generations can participate and communicate together. The assembly consists of resident promotion of the neighborhood BI project, reports on the autonomy activities of the Residents' Autonomy Committee, resident voting on next year's village agenda projects, and various experience booths.
Resident voting will be conducted concurrently through online and offline early voting and on-site voting on the day of the assembly. The village agendas decided at the residents' assembly will secure execution power through resident participation budgets and city and district public contest projects.
Kim I-gang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, "Changes in the village begin with residents' participation," adding, "We will spare no support to ensure that the village projects selected at the residents' assembly fully permeate daily life and that residents' interest continues."
