Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok sent congratulatory messages to shooting athlete Lee Yoon-ri (Wando County Office), who won the first medal for the Korean delegation at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, and table tennis women's doubles player Seo Soo-yeon (Gwangju Metropolitan City Office) from Mokpo, who won the silver medal.
Lee Yoon-ri won the silver medal by scoring 246.8 points in the women's 10m air rifle standing final held at the Ch?teauroux Shooting Centre in Paris, France. This is the first Olympic medal in shooting for Lee Yoon-ri in eight years since the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Lee Yoon-ri became a spinal cord injury patient due to a traffic accident in 1996 and discovered shooting during rehabilitation training. This Paralympics is her fifth. She won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Seo Soo-yeon, from Mokpo, won the silver medal after losing 1-3 in set score to the Chinese team in the women's doubles table tennis final held at the South Paris Arena.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, “I deeply thank the athletes who have taken the lead in promoting national prestige and have given hope and inspiration to the people of Jeonnam and the entire nation,” and added, “I wish the athletes a future full of brilliant glory and fulfillment.”
The Jeonnam delegation participating in the Paralympics includes shooting athlete Lee Yoon-ri, fencing athlete Baek Kyung-hye (KEPCO KDN), badminton players Yoo Soo-young, Kwon Hyun-ah, Jeong Gyeo-ul (Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled), archery athlete Jang Kyung-sook (KEPCO KDN), shooting athlete Kim Jeong-nam (BDH ParaS) from Naju, table tennis player Seo Soo-yeon (Gwangju City Office) from Mokpo, and fencing athlete Jo Eun-hye (Brubel Korea) from Wando.
