128th Regular Concert Story Forum: Composer Kim Hyogeun and Yoon Hakjoon Together on September 5
The Ulsan City Choir, conducted by Park Donghee, will hold its 128th regular concert, the "K-Art Pop Talk Concert," at 7:30 p.m. on the 5th at the Small Theater of the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center.
This performance will feature composers Kim Hyogeun and Yoon Hakjoon, who represent K-Art Pop?a new trend in modern Korean art songs?known for their popular melodies and lyrical lyrics.
The opening piece will be "The Most Beautiful Song," written and composed by Kim Hyogeun. It is said that this song was inspired by the first line of Turkish national poet Nazim Hikmet's "True Journey": "The best poem has not been written yet, and the most beautiful song has not been sung yet." The song conveys the message, "Even if today is humble and difficult, let us not lose hope and courage, but challenge ourselves toward our dreams."
Next, the concert will feature "First Love," the first song from the art song collection "I Love You," a representative piece that combines artistry and popularity. Kim Hyogeun composed this piece as both a piano and vocal song, dedicating it to his beloved when he decided to propose.
There will also be pieces by Yoon Hakjoon, who has set beautiful Korean poems to song so that anyone can sing them.
The program includes "Greeting," which expresses longing for a loved one in a relatively simple yet powerful way, as well as "Star," "When a Single Flower Blooms," and "The Star Reaches You," which blend Korean sentiment with a touch of Western color, reminiscent of an ink-and-wash painting.
The concert will be hosted by Jung Yunji, who is the DJ of Ulsan Broadcasting's radio program "Happy Four O'Clock with Jung Yunji."
An official from the Ulsan City Arts Group said, "This is an opportunity to widely promote our art songs through Art-Pop, which fuses the artistry of Korean art songs with the popularity of K-Pop," adding, "It will be a stage where all audiences can approach classical music more closely."
Admission is open to elementary school students and older, and tickets are 10,000 won for all seats. Various discounts are available: 30% for center members, 20% for groups, and 50% for students (elementary, middle, high school) and youth card holders.
