"Investigation on Public Suspicion, Not Political Retaliation"
"Opposition Tends to View All Issues Conspiratorially"
The People Power Party stated on the 31st that the prosecution's search of the residence of Dahye Moon, the daughter of former President Moon, the previous day "will serve as an opportunity to demonstrate equality before the law." The prosecution is investigating allegations of preferential hiring at an airline involving Seo, the former son-in-law of former President Moon Jae-in.
Spokesperson Jeong Gwang-jae met with reporters at the National Assembly that day and said, "The public has many questions regarding the allegations involving Moon Dahye. Under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which pursues a fair society, law enforcement that favors specific individuals cannot be tolerated."
Spokesperson Jeong emphasized, "Rather than viewing this as political retaliation, anyone with public suspicion cannot be exempt from investigation. Moon Dahye must also be equal before the law."
He continued, "There is reason to look into how the former president’s son-in-law was able to get a job at a specific airline and work overseas without relevant experience, and whether there was a causal relationship in the process of that airline’s owner, former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik, becoming the chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation," adding, "The prosecution is conducting an appropriate investigation."
On the same day, Spokesperson Jeong criticized Representative Cho Guk of the Innovation Party for spreading conspiracy theories related to the allegations about former lawmaker Lee’s appointment as chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation during the Moon Jae-in administration.
Representative Cho, who appeared as a witness at the Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office investigating the case, told reporters, "I hope the prosecution would investigate President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Keon-hee, who are currently in power, even one percent as much as they are investigating former President Moon and his family."
In response, Spokesperson Jeong said, "Opposition parties, including the Innovation Party, tend to view all matters through an excessively conspiratorial lens," adding, "Such conspiratorial perspectives ultimately divide the people and hinder the unity of the Republic of Korea."
