Luxury Bags and Watches Subtly Displayed by Thailand's 30s Prime Minister...Foreign Media Highlight "Smart Fashion"

Sophisticated Style Without Showing Off 'Jumok'

Thailand's youngest female prime minister, Paetongtarn Chinnawath (37), is drawing attention from foreign media for her fashion sense. She is praised for showcasing a modern yet understated fashion style.

Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) highlighted Chinnawath's fashion at official events on the 27th (local time). The outlet commented, "Since assuming office, Chinnawath has attracted attention with her sophisticated style" and "She uses fashion in a smart way."

According to SCMP, Chinnawath maintains jackets and pantsuits at official appearances while appropriately blending luxury brands. On her official Instagram, clothing featuring logos of luxury brands such as Gucci and Chanel frequently appears. However, she tends to avoid large, conspicuous logos and emphasizes restrained details suitable for a politician.

SCMP particularly noted Chinnawath's attempt to combine the traditional Thai outfit 'Chut Thai' with overseas luxury brands. A representative example is matching a Gucci bag of a similar color with the traditional Thai women's attire. SCMP explained this as "presenting a modern perspective to the Thai cabinet, which traditionally adhered to suits and traditional clothing."

However, when not at official events, she sometimes showcases bold fashion sense contrasting with typical political figures, such as wearing sneakers and loose-fitting jeans. Even then, she avoids expensive jewelry. In contrast, she is known to always wear high-end wristwatches, sporting brands like Audemars Piguet and F.P. Journe. The top-tier models of these brands range in price from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of Korean won.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Chinnawath became the 31st prime minister of Thailand following the Constitutional Court's dismissal of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on the 14th. She is the youngest prime minister in Thai history and the second female prime minister after Yingluck Shinawath. She is an heiress of a chaebol family with astronomical wealth and managed a real estate company owned by the Thaksin family before entering politics.

Her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Chinnawath, served as Thailand's prime minister from 2001 to 2006 but was ousted by a military coup in 2006. He spent 15 years in exile before returning last year. It is reported that his political influence remains strong within Thailand.
