Securing Forest Resources and Balanced Development Top Priorities... Administrative Procedures Begin in October

Chungnam Forest Resources Institute Relocates to Cheongyang... Highest Score Among Five Cities and Counties

The Chungnam Forest Resources Research Institute, which had been left idle in Sejong City for over a decade, will be relocated to Cheongyang-gun.

The provincial Forest Resources Research Institute held a site evaluation committee on the 30th and selected Cheongyang-gun as the final relocation site.

Among the five candidate cities and counties, Cheongyang-gun received the highest scores for securing forest resources, contributing to balanced regional development within the province, and its potential for research and utilization linked to forest resources.

The Chungnam Forest Resources Research Institute, located in Banpo-myeon, Gongju City, was incorporated into Geumnam-myeon, Sejong City, when Sejong City was established in 2012.

However, it was left neglected for over ten years without proper compensation for this change.

During the 8th popularly elected administration, Governor Kim Taeheum requested the government to purchase the site, but as the issue was not resolved, the province decided to cooperate with Sejong City to sell the site to the private sector and began promoting the relocation plan for the Forest Resources Research Institute.

With the selection of the relocation site, the province plans to proceed with the relocation in earnest, going through administrative procedures such as basic planning and feasibility studies starting this October.

Kim Giho, head of the provincial Forest Resources Research Institute, said, "Since incorporation into Sejong City, there has been a continuous mismatch between service beneficiaries, providers, and economic effects. Through relocation within the province, we will resolve these issues and provide higher-quality, integrated forest recreation services to residents."
