Urban Water Playground Serves as Summer Retreat for 45 Days
'Hwangto Barefoot Trail' Emerges as a Summer Healing Spot
Design Park in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, has established itself as a summer urban retreat, attracting a continuous stream of citizens.
The city of Yangsan announced that the Design Park Water Playground, which opened on July 12, served as a perfect urban vacation spot for 45 days and successfully concluded its operation on August 25.
The Design Park Water Playground is equipped with two combination play structures, a water bucket, and water showers, offering facilities comparable to those of a professional water park. It was operated free of charge, allowing visitors to enjoy water activities, and received an enthusiastic response from families. An average of 708 people visited the water playground daily, and the total number of visitors reached 27,600, a 77% increase compared to the previous year.
To ensure safe and pleasant operation of the water playground, Yangsan City checked and replaced the water tanks daily and deployed safety personnel and nursing staff with professional qualifications, completing the operation without any major accidents.
In addition, the "Hwangto Barefoot Trail," created in June this year within Design Park, has emerged as a popular healing spot during the summer. Located within the forest of Design Park, the Hwangto Barefoot Trail provides shade and phytoncides that help cool off in the heat, establishing itself as a healing destination used by an average of 1,000 citizens daily.
The total length of the Hwangto Barefoot Trail is 550 meters. It was created by laying hwangto (yellow soil) on a shaded forest trail, and for the convenience of visitors, facilities such as a barefoot hwangto experience zone, foot-washing area, shoe rack, and various resting areas are also provided.
A city official stated, "By September, we plan to install dust removers along the Hwangto Barefoot Trail and plant 5,400 autumn flowers, including marigolds, around the barefoot path so that Design Park can continue to serve as a diverse experiential space and resting place for the health of our citizens."
